Egypt Loop 2017
A 3 day excursion in the Egypt area of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, complete with wet weather, bushwhacking, quicksand, river crossings galore, and of course, beautiful canyon scenery. Day 1 began with a descent of Fence Canyon to its confluence with the Escalante River. We followed the river downstream as a storm moved in, pelting us with rain and hail, eventually making camp just upstream of Neon Canyon. Day 2 was a long one, as we followed the Escalante down to 25 Mile Wash, taking a side trip up Neon Canyon to the Golden Cathedral en route. 25 Mile Wash, while stunning, especially in its lower stretches, proved taxing as we were forced to navigate deep quicksand and thick vegetation en route to our 2nd night's camp. Day 3 took us out of 25 Mile Wash and overland back to Fence Canyon.
